Whose Knowledge Counts?: From Warp Drive to Waka Huia

Knowledge takes many forms, but not all are valued equally. Pounamu Jade Aikman shows how particular ways of knowing underpin life in Aotearoa, to the exclusion of others. Ranging from Foucault to Spock to school lunches, he traces the marginalisation of Indigenous knowledge. He also looks at its impact on our economy, prisons, politics and constitutional relationships, asking - are we caught in the holodeck? Challenging, optimistic and ever curious, this Text asks why whose knowledge counts matters, as we work out what living on shared whenua means for us all.
