The Subtle Game of Obstruction is a nonfiction account of how ordinary citizens can be worn down by the very institutions meant to protect them. Drawing on Graeme Axford's decades of advocacy, the book argues that the problem is not simply a few bad decisions, but a recurring pattern of bureaucratic behaviour. At the centre of the book is Axford's 'Seven Ds' framework: delay, defer, deny, defend, dismiss, destroy, and dehumanise.
