The second book in Reading Warrior's new series Oceania Heritage is Samoa, published in 2025. Written and illustrated by children of Samoa who live in Aotearoa, Samoa and other parts of the world, these are, in the children's words, their expressions of aspects of Samoan life that are important to them. There are stories of history, myth, religion celebrations, life events, people of importance to them, as well as records of everyday life such as such as trips to the beach and favourite recipes. The contributors are from Samoan bilingual units at Flat Bush and Richmond Road schools in Aotearoa, Robert Louis Stevenson School in Samoa and from Samoan children living around the world including in Morocco, Alaska, Sweden, Taiwan and Abu Dhabi. The groups of children were supported and encouraged by respective principals, teachers, parents and other supporters to write and about their home island and illustrate the stories. This vibrant collection of material by children of 'The Pearl of the Pacific' includes a map of the islands and 32 pieces of writing. Written by children for children, it provides a unique insight into Samoa.
